Wentworth House Partnership designed the top-down propping and column restraint for the largest open basement in the City of London. The top-down slabs had a re-entrant corner at the core and therefore the perimeter could not form a traditional doughnut slab.

We designed load transfer frames to redistribute load to maintain retaining wall stability and avoid unacceptable movement of adjacent buildings and infrastructure. We then assessed the slabs to resist lateral loading and dealt with steps in levels and floor voids.

In addition to dealing with retaining wall loads, Wentworth House Partnership designed permanent strengthening for logistics loading, site accommodation, hoists and tower crane bases. The basement excavation was completed efficiently and within allowable ground movement limits.
