Ropemaker Street

This major basement excavation 12-16m deep with a plan area 60m x 70m was required to support several new superstructure blocks up to 20 stories high. Some of the new building foundations re-used the existing perimeter ground bearing foundations left outside of the new perimeter secant wall, and control of ground movements was therefore critical.

Wentworth House Partnership designed and detailed the major propping frames to the secant piled wall to facilitate the construction, utilising flying shores throughout. The struts were jacked to control the ground movement and a muck away gantry was also designed which allowed for excavators, lorries, and later adaptation to support a mobile crane.
