Working at Wentworth House Partnership

Want to join the Partnership?

Wentworth House Partnership has an approved graduate training scheme accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers which includes a site placement within Keltbray Group. The scheme is structured to give each graduate sufficient experience to successfully achieve chartered status within 3–5 years of joining.
We look to recruit the best candidates within the design engineering sector and take pride in developing them to their full potential, and offer a competitive rewards and benefits package.

“Since joining I have gained some of the most varied and invaluable experience to date. I have worked on site for 18 months for Keltbray as a contract engineer with a great deal of responsibility and I am now working with Wentworth House Partnership developing my design skills. I love the difference in the work involved and am continuing to learn here key engineering concepts in both the Structures and the Geotechnics sectors. After graduating, I found it difficult to decide where I would eventually work in engineering – contracting or consultancy. However, by joining the Keltbray group I have gained knowledge in both of these areas.”

"It’s been a privilege to work within WHP and I’m proud of the work we have produced, in particular on Crossrail and Tideway. I’d like to thank you all for making WHP such a supportive, welcoming and enjoyable place to work. I’ve made some great friends in my time in Esher and in the new Bristol office."

TRAINING SCHEMES

Learning is a lifetime activity going way beyond university teaching. Choosing a career with us will extend your capability and help you to develop into a competent and successful engineer able to exercise good judgement and take responsibility for managing other staff.

Wentworth House Partnership has an approved graduate training scheme accredited by the ICE and a place is offered on the training scheme to every eligible graduate choosing a career with us. The scheme is structured to give each graduate sufficient experience to successfully achieve chartered status normally within 3-5 years of joining.

Each graduate engineer is supported by a Delegated Engineer and a Supervising Civil Engineer appointed by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Quarterly reviews help to organise the trainee’s development and maintain a personal development record. This process helps focus their objectives to develop an action plan to become a Chartered Engineer. The training scheme is led by our own Supervising Civil Engineer and we have the added benefit that our managing director is an ICE reviewer.

As part of the training agreement there is opportunity to work on site between 6-18 months to gain valuable site experience in the construction industry and see the construction of your own designs. This gives the individual insight into practical issues that need to be considered during design. Working at WHP presents fluid transitions across a variety of disciplines to work in civil engineering, structures and geotechnics. There is opportunity to work with many different teams and environments.

“There is regular training provided depending on business needs with mentoring on the go. Very experienced directors are seated only 5m away in our open plan office and they are always happy to help!”

PLACEMENTS

We provide summer placements and year-long placements for undergraduates. From the word go you are exposed to a range of exciting projects which will build on your existing knowledge to help solve real life problems.

You will be fully supported through the projects by all your colleagues. You will work in an exciting environment where the project design turnaround time will range from a day to a week meaning that everything you do counts and will make a difference. You may even get the opportunity to shadow a site engineer to see your designs being constructed.

The experience here will help with your learning and understanding of engineering principles. There is ample opportunity to ask questions, discuss ideas and opinions. The experience will give you an appreciation of the process of design and help you to see the practical application of the knowledge gained from your university course.

Alongside your technical development there will be natural development of soft skills such as time management, flexibility, decision making and report writing; all these are invaluable skills for a lifetime career in engineering.

“Site experience will undoubtedly have a very positive influence on my future role as a designer. This is a great benefit of working for a consultancy which is part of the larger contractor group.”
